Visit by Mr Gaute Sivertsen, the Director of the IOPC Funds

JMC Chair, Mr Shukuri received a visit from Mr Gaute Sivertsen, Director of the IOPC Funds.

Mr Sivertsen explained issues at the coming session of the meeting of IOPC Funds’ governing bodies, which will be held on 5 November. He said that three oil pollution incidents happened in 2024, draft resolutions and guidance documents are submitted for consideration to address the problem of unsafe and uninsured vessels, and the 2010 HNS Convention could enter into force in 2027.
Mr Shukuri expressed appreciation for the IOPC Funds activities and said that JMC has carefully monitored the status of the 2010 HNS Convention. In addition, he expressed deep concern about vessels, which he called the dark fleet, navigating in bad conditions to escape the sanctions against Russia and stressed the importance of safe and stable maritime transport.
